CORCOVADO
Rio de Janeiro has beautiful views, so we went to the Corcovado to look over the city. With a small train we went all the way up. We were lucky with the weather, because the next day there were so many clouds, we wouldn't have seen much.
ESCADARIA SELARÓN
Ofcourse we went to the famous colored stairs. A must see in Rio de Janeiro!
Touchdown Rio
Wednesday, 27 September 2017I'm in Rio de Janeiro! Never expected this. Only one day before I went I knew that I was going here. My mother is stewardess and because her schedule changed she got this flight last minute. And because it's an amazing opportunity we decided I would come with her. We have 3 full days in this city, so you may think it's quite a long travel for those few days, but it's 100% worth it! :)
COMING HOME
Sunday, 10 September 2017One thing you won't be able to understand until you experience it, is the feeling you get after coming home from traveling for a long time. Especially when you've been on your own. And no one can understand what you've been through. I can tell all the stories. About all the people I've met and everything I've done. But the feelings, I can't describe. Everytime I'm coming home everything here is still the same. And everyone's life is too. School. Work.
My home didn't change. The people around me didn't. But I did. I've started to think different. Look at things at another way. I can't explain all the feelings and what all the experiences have done to me.
I don't want to sound depressive, but sometimes that's how I feel. I'm falling into a hole. Also because most of the time I don't have a plan for the next weeks/months. Nothing to focus on. Ofcourse this is also someting I should enjoy. I don't have to do anything and can relax as much as I want. But it's not always as romantic as it may seem.
Right now I'm busy organising for the next few months, which takes more time than expected. The future is so unsure.
All these feelings are sometimes hard to deal with.
I don't want to be negative. I just wanted to show that my (travel) life isn't always just fun and easy.
AT THE OTHER END OF THAT FLIGHT
Saturday, 9 September 2017"I beg young people to travel. If you don't have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown, eat interesting food, dig some interesting people, have an adventure, be careful. Come back and you're going to see your country differently, you're going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You're going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It's not what Tom Friedman writes about, I'm sorry. You're going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so. There are lessons that you can't get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of people come back and go "ohhhhh". And the lightbulb goes on."
